MICROBIOMES4SOY

Our networks

Founded in November 2023 as a follow-up to the Horizon 2020 Coordination and Support project, the MicrobiomeSupport Association aims to bridge the gap between research and real-world applications. The Association’s statutes and governance were formalised at the first Food System Microbiomes Conference in May 2024, setting the stage for a collaborative effort toward sustainable food production, One Health, and food security.

Dr. Angela Sessitsch (AIT), coordinator of the Microbiomes4Soy project, is the President of the MicrobiomeSupport Association.

The Association is dedicated to:

    • Supporting the transition from R&D to practical implementation in microbiome science.

    • Driving the development of a future-proof food system that ensures sustainability and resilience.

    • Promoting human well-being and One Health, which recognizes the interconnectedness of people, animals, and ecosystems.

As an associated project of this association, we look forward to contributing to its goals and participating in joint initiatives that will help shape the future of sustainable food systems!

The Microbiomes4Soy project is part of the FOOD 2030 Project Collaboration Network and featured on the FOOD 2030 Online Platform, a hub for transformative projects working toward sustainable food systems.

Why is this important?

The FOOD 2030 Network plays a critical role in accelerating innovation and collaboration across the food system. By being part of this platform, Microbiomes4Soy gains the opportunity to:

  • Expand its network: Connect with like-minded projects and experts shaping the future of food.
  • Maximise impact: Showcase results, tools, and resources to a wider audience, amplifying our mission to elevate soya’s role in sustainable food production.
  • Drive collaboration: Participate in joint activities, share insights, and build synergies with other initiatives tackling food system challenges.
  • Inform policy: Contribute to shaping future EU policies through informed discussions and evidence-based research.

What can you find on the network?

The FOOD 2030 Online Platform offers access to a wealth of resources, including toolkits, collaborative projects, and insights into innovative practices. It’s a space to:

  • Learn about sustainable solutions transforming food systems.
  • Discover inspiring partnerships and case studies.
  • Access opportunities for joint events, training, and support.

Together with the FOOD 2030 network, Microbiomes4Soy is working to advance sustainable, plant-based protein solutions for healthier diets and a healthier planet.

The Legume Hub  – Europe’s knowledge platform for legumes – is a platform dedicated to sharing knowledge and successful practices across value chains, from plant breeding, on-farm activities, through to processing and consumption. All research project teams that support the development and use of legume crops are welcome to use the Legume Hub as communication platform.

As a member of the Legume Hub, Microbiomes4Soy strengthens its mission to enhance legume value chains, notably of the soya bean, through microbiome science and promote environmentally resilient agricultural practices. Donau Soja, a partner in the Microbiomes4Soy project, manages the Legume Hub, ensuring that this vital platform continues to foster innovation, sustainability, and knowledge sharing.

We look forward to collaborating with fellow members, sharing our findings, and contributing to the development of sustainable legume-based food systems!

Microbiomes4Soy is part of the Microbes4SustainableFoods (M4SF) cluster, a collaborative group of EU-funded projects working toward healthier food systems and sustainable agriculture. Together, the M4SF members focus on the role of microbiomes throughout food value chains, supporting human and environmental well-being.

In October 2024, Microbiomes4Soy joined the cluster as an associated member to further the cluster’s mission to advance sustainable food systems.

Objectives of the #Microbes4SustainableFoods cluster:

  • Unveiling health benefits of fermented foods: Exploring the role of microbiomes in enhancing human gut health and developing innovative fermented foods.
  • Promoting environmental and human well-being: Strengthening sustainability in food systems while supporting public health.
  • Enhancing microbial food innovation: Positioning Europe as a leader in the production of diverse microbial foods rooted in local food systems and regional diversity.
  • Unlocking the potential of wheat microbiomes: Utilising soil-plant microbiome interactions to improve crop sustainability and foster a circular economy.

Other members of the M4SF cluster include the following projects: DOMINOTRIBIOME,  WHEATBIOME,  HEALTHFERMPIMENTO Cost Action, and MICROBE.
