On October 23, 2024, the Microbiomes4Soy project hosted an online workshop, bringing together a dynamic group of stakeholders to spark dialogue and action around sustainable food production and human health. This initial workshop marked a key step in developing transition pathways for a healthier planet, focusing on advancing microbiome-based knowledge and solutions within the soya value chain to facilitate nutritious, soya-enriched diets.
Participants – including project partners and external stakeholders – explored strategies to deepen understanding of microbiomes’ potential in sustainable agriculture and public health. The workshop agenda included an introduction to the project, an interactive mapping session on microbiome applications in the soya value chain, and in-depth group discussions on critical areas: soil health, soya plant cultivation and processing, fish feed, and human nutrition. Participants collectively identified and prioritised challenges and solutions, and assigned responsibilities across key dimensions.
The workshop concluded with a plenary summary and an outlook on next steps, reinforcing a shared commitment to transforming Europe’s agri-food systems. As Microbiomes4Soy continues its journey, the project will illustrate new pathways in sustainable protein production, considering aspects on education, policy, innovation, and communication, thus contributing to systemic change across the EU food system. This collaborative approach aims to empower stakeholders and align efforts to build a resilient, health-focused food landscape across Europe. Stay tuned as we continue to drive impactful change through microbiome innovation!
